I can understand why businesses use the VALS system for lifestyle segmentation . I believe the system is very accurate. When i took it , it told me that I was an achiever and a experiencers. I like to stay on top of fashion trends and will spend the money for the quality. While i do like to make things for myself such as clothes, i still very much like to go out and shop . It even pointed out my category's characteristics like to impulse buy, which i am also known for doing .
In terms of the presentations on Tuesday, my group had Libby Lu's. A young girls store which pampers little girls, a mini spa for miniature women. I don't know if the VALS survey would really accommodate the little girls because the youngest age bracket that had was 18-24. However if the parents fell into the category of achiever, experiencers or strivers they would probably take their child to Libby Lu's. The whole concept of Libby Lu's is to treat young girls to pamper themselves as perhaps their mothers do when they go get their nails or hair done. Pampering is not looked as necessary to all individuals . Whereas my mother has always been about taking care of yourself, not every parent would be willing to spend money on such a service. I do agree the VALS survey should be used with other segmentation methods to get a completly accurate idea, but the survey in my opinion is quite accurate.

So, let’s talk about my favorite retailer .There are so many to choose from , but I’m going to stick to the one that I feel is most beneficial to my budget at this point in time. Macy’s, one of the most known upscale retailers there are at this point in time. Among many things, I appreciate this store because of ; their credit cards, online services, sales, customer service and selection. Many stores compete with Macy’s practices but I believe on top of the things I listed above, Macy’s has also withstood the test of time in the retail industry.
Considered the world’s largest store since 1924 Macy’s houses all upscale brands from clothing to house wares. They sell timeless designers and brands such as Ralph Lauren, Perry Ellis, Ellie Tahari and many others. Celebrities that have ventured out into making their own brands are also sold in their stores too, giving the customers a wide variety of selection while shopping. When shopping in the store one is sure to notice how fantastic their customer service is. Employees are always visibly placed throughout the store waiting to help. They are very knowledgeable about the merchandise and help customers to make purchases they are sure to love. If something cannot be found in the store they offer a great online variety as well with exclusive online specials and sales. Everyone who shops in Macy’s will find something to fit their personal style.
Macy’s is also financially pleasing because of all the sales the store has. The merchandise in the store tends to be high quality with high quality price tags, but they have so many sales you rarely pay the full price. They target all types of customers; they have early bird sales (sales that start between 5 am and 7am) and sales that last the whole weekend. So everyone has a chance to catch a sale. If for some reason you miss a sale you can always apply for the Macy’s credit card. I truly believe the Macy’s credit card is the best one to have because unlike other store cards, with every purchase, you receive 15 % off the entire purchase. Usually the 15% gets combined with the other sales going on at the time, leaving you a happy customer when you leave the store. You can use the card in store as well as online. In my opinion it really makes a good incentive for shopping, every time you to go the register you can expect to have a great amount of savings. I feel that Macy’s really tries to benefit the customers and because they do, the gain a loyal clientele. They also always hold the Thanksgiving Day parade as well as sponsor fireworks. They are quite in tune with the community, and trends of the world. They give each customer optimum ways to save money and get good quality merchandise. The employees really go out of their way to ensure a great shopping experience. Combine that with great sales and a great variety and everyone wins. The fact the store is still standing and running smoothly even in this economy says a lot about the strength of this retailer
